The Well

What is The Well?Well plus times
The Well a community café, where you can drop in for a tea, coffee or delicious savouries and cakes.
It is a time to enjoy your drink and cake, to chat with others or to just enjoy a bit of ‘time out’.

Is it expensive?
The Well Café operates on donations. This means it is free if things are a bit tight at the moment. But if you would like to make a donation, then we suggest £1 per item. If you are able to give a little more to support those who are unable to pay that would be greatly appreciated.

Why have we called our café ‘The Well’?
The Bible tells us of a day when Jesus was on a journey. It was hot and he rested by a well on the outskirts of a town. There was no bucket and the well was deep, so he had to wait.

Along came a woman to get water for her family and Jesus asked her for a drink. She drew some water for him and they started to talk. This was surprising because he was a Jew and she a Samaritan, they normally did not like each other – but that did not seem to be an issue that day.

Jesus was easy to talk to and she asked him lots of questions and explored their differences. She was a person with problems and it would seem she had no one to talk to, but this conversation changed that!

So ‘The Well’ is a place where conversations can take place and someone will listen.

Jesus offered her something in return for the water she had given him – Living Water – but she did not understand!

Jesus explained he was the Messiah, God’s Son. If she believed in him she could have this special gift – Eternal Life.

At first, she saw him as a prophet, but then as they talked, she realised he was something more. She was convinced he was who he said he was – The Messiah. She knew she could trust him and believed he was the Son of God and found a peace in her heart.

How about you? Are you troubled by world events or situations you are facing? We are here to listen and help if we can. Talking about issues helps us to see a way forward. We believe God loves you and cares for you as he does us.

You can read the full story in the Bible, St John’s Gospel chapter 4 and verses 1 - 26.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (85 Southfield Road) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits at 11.45am after the service. It is a great way to meet people. All refreshments are free.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets in the main foyer.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10:30am with a warm welcome from one of our team members together with any notices. Then follows (in varying order) a time of sung worship, a time of prayer, communion (once a fortnight), a bible reading and a sermon that is bible based and something we can apply to our everyday life. Sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a small passage from the bible. Sometimes people share things that they believe God is saying to the whole church family. This might seem strange the first time you hear it but it’s all part of our connecting with God.  We then finish with a final worship song. Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.

What about my kids?

Please speak to a member of the Welcome Team and we will ensure that your children are looked after in a creche area, given a special children's lesson or attend our Bible Class (secondary school age.)

Children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the welcome, songs and notices. We really value worshipping God all together as a family. At the end of the notices someone will announce that it’s time for the younger members to go to their various groups. You will need to go with your children to their groups and register them as part of our child safety policy. Whilst you are dropping your kids off at their groups, we pause to take time to chat to someone sitting near or next to us, giving folk a chance to come back before the sermon begins.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, testimonies, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play. Please pick your children up as soon as the service finishes.

Getting Connected

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
